Future Projects
Our roadmap to a successful and thriving community
Goosedubs
Goosedubs is an area of Common Good Land next to Nigel Henderson Court, which is earmarked for Community Asset Transfer (CAT) to Sanquhar Enterprise Company for the future purposes of a Community Housing development.
Phase 1 of CAT has been completed. Phase 2 is about to be started with the development of a Business Plan.

Sanquhar Castle
Sanquhar Castle is a significant, registered historic monument, the remains of which are in serious need of stabilisation and clearance of intrusive vegetation, which is currently threatening the remains of the structure.
SEC are in dialogue with the current owners with a view to acquiring ownership of both Sanquhar Castle and the nearby Castle Mains & Steading buildings. If successful, SEC wish to transform the Castle buildings into a Heritage and Tourism asset, which would increase the numbers of visitors to Sanquhar and boost the local economy.
Historic Environment Scotland funded a Condition and Viability Survey, which is available to view on request to our Community Development Officer.
Castle Mains & Steadings
The Castle Mains & Steadings are a collection of derelict farm buildings surrounding an inner courtyard.
As with the Castle, SEC are in negotiations with the current owners to transfer ownership of these buildings to be saved and converted into Community/Heritage/Tourism spaces. The ambition is also to turn the buildings into an income generating asset, which would help secure further finance for the maintenance and possible development of the Castle and the surrounding land.
SEC are exploring plans to incorporate an element of affordable Community Housing, which could potentially be built within the current buildings’ footprint as well as on adjacent vacant land.
SEC funded a Condition Survey of the current buildings, copies of which are available on request to our Community Development Officer.

Queens Road
A potential joint venture is being explored between Sanquhar Enterprise Company, South of Scotland Community Housing (SOSCH), Dumfries & Galloway Council, and Cunninghame Housing Association to deliver an ambitious new housing project for the community. The proposal focuses on the creation of an initial 15-unit development, bringing together a mix of affordable community housing and social housing designed to meet local demand and strengthen the area’s housing provision.
Although still at an early stage, Sanquhar Enterprise Company has already signalled its commitment to high-quality, sustainable design by planning to include five Passivhaus standard homes within the development.
These ultra-low-energy homes would not only help residents reduce household costs but also contribute to wider environmental goals by minimising carbon emissions.
By working collaboratively with established partners and ensuring the community’s voice is central throughout the planning process, this joint venture has the potential to provide a lasting and positive impact on both housing availability and community wellbeing in Sanquhar.
